Gall Bladder Surgery Part 1

I can imagine some of you reading the title and thinking…what?  So here is the short explanation.  Very early tomorrow I will have my gall bladder removed.

The longer story is that for a couple of years I’ve had an uncomfortable though infrequent sensation just under my right ribs.  It reminds me of when I was pregnant with my oldest child.  In the womb he would stretch and stick a foot up under my ribs in just that spot.  Well…I’m definitely not pregnant and the discomfort has become more frequent and interferes with my sleep (not a good thing for the other people in my house).  I had the HIDA scan done.  What is that?  One is given two medicines intravenously.  The first “lights” things up so pictures of the organ can be taken.  Once that medicine reaches the gall bladder, the second medicine is given.  Although not as innately evil, I loving call this medicine pitocin for the gall bladder.  It doesn’t make the gall bladder go into labor exactly, but it did make it contract/work like it’s supposed to.  Pictures are taken, data is extracted and calculated, and somehow they come up with an efficiency number–how well is that bladder working?  The numbers range from 100 to 0–the former being perfect and the latter is probably dead.  The cut-off number, the “Yeah, you better take that out” number is 35.  Hm mm?  So what was mine?  It was 16.  I was pretty darn sure that sucker needed to come out because for almost three days after that test I was sore like I’d done situps on the right side of my body only.  So it’s coming out and I’m looking forward to being able to sleep comfortably on my stomach again in the near future.  I’ll be back online on Friday or more likely Saturday.

Thank you for all the well wishes, those of you that caught my earlier comment about surgery.  I plan to awaken from surgery doing just what I did after my knee surgery–telling my favorite knock knock joke.

Knock Knock.

Who’s There?

Interrupting Cow.

Interru….?

MOOOOOOOO!

By the looks of the comments, you’re well on your way to healing. BTW… I do love the joke…very original. Best to you, my friend! xoxo

    • Yousei Hime says:

      Roka,
Thank you for the visit and comment. I am getting better, though it is slower than I had anticipated. I seem to get tired so much more easily. Loving how busy you’ve been with your art. Very exciting. 🙂 Best to you too.

  2. I have two, conflicting feelings about this post.

First, and of course, I am sorry to hear about your surgery.

Second, I just CAN’T WAIT to try that joke out on my son. He’s gonna love it!

Ahem. Here’s hoping your recovery is swift and painless.

    All the best,

    Mike

      Mike,
Welcome. I enjoyed reading your comment, and I’m happy you found something to share with your son. Be sure and read through the comments on this post and the GBS2 post. Somewhere in there a fellow blogger shared another great interrupting knock-knock joke. Thank you for your well wishes. Hope you’ll come by again sometime.

  3. Fergiemoto says:

    Wishing you a quick recovery!

  4. Shawna says:

I hate to “like” this post, but you know what I mean. 🙂

I’m so glad you had it taken out before you were in terrible pain. I love “pitocin for the gall bladder.”

  5. Deborah Avila says:

  7. A bit late now, but… here’s to a speedy recovery!

(For more interrupting jokes, I’m fond of the interrupting starfish. Rather than the “moooo”, one simply places one’s hand on the other person’s face. Though maybe that requires a level of coordination that, post-op, is a little unrealistic…)

    • Yousei Hime says:

      Joseph,
Thank you. I love, love, love that joke. I’m not going looking for another surgery to use it, but I’ll spy out a good opportunity to spring it on someone. 😉

  8. Yousei, my first visit after you dropped by my blog, and you’re sick! Poor thing, and I remember the baby kicks you speak of. Your humor will see you through, and let’s face it. Gall bladders are totally dispensable these days, it seems. Now I’ll go back a few posts and see what you REALLY write. Fast recovery to you, my dear! Peace, Amy

  9. Roxie says:

all the best on your recovery…it sounds like you’ll be so much better off after years of issues with it. namaste Yousei 🙂

    • Yousei Hime says:

      Roxie,
Thanks. If it hadn’t gotten more annoying this year, I probably would have kept on ignoring it until I had a full blown attack. 😀 All done. Went well. I’m back home, sore and resting. Post on the event tomorrow. Thank you so much for your well wishes.

  10. Irene says:

Rest well after your surgery, girl. I don’t even know what a gall bladder is for.

    • Yousei Hime says:

      Irene,
Lol. I didn’t either until mine went bad. They add bile to the mix of the large intestine, helping digestion of fats and other stuff. 😀 All done. Went well. I’m back home, sore and resting. Post on the event tomorrow. Thank you so much for your well wishes.

  11. leahJlynn says:

Will pray for you…. Blessings in this matter. 🙂

  16. sandy says:

I am wishing you well very quickly. Don’t forgot to take a pen and paper with you in case you think of a few good lines while you are recovering.

    • Yousei Hime says:

      sandy,
😀 All done. Went well. I was a bit too sore to do any writing, and didn’t follow your suggestion. However, I do a lot of writing in my head, so we’ll see what comes of that. I’m back home, sore and resting. Post on the event tomorrow. Thank you so much for your well wishes.

  17. Raven says:

Not sure why I pressed the “like” button … may you come through this with flying colors, be well … Liz

  18. margo roby says:

My thoughts are with you, Yousei. I’ll bet you do tell the joke. As a teen, I had to have an operation to remove a fingernail, a nasty enough thing to have me put under. I had finals the next day. The surgeon had me saying ‘I will pass,’ as I went under. I came out of the anesthetic still saying it.
    Who’s there?

  19. rumpydog says:

Take care, and I hope you’re soon fully recovered.

  20. angie werren says:

best of luck — you’re in my thoughts.
    looking forward to the …

    MOOOO!!
    🙂

  21. ladynyo says:

Knock, Knock….interrupting cow joke! LOL! funny..

I wish you the very best on this surgery. I had that stuff done almost 4 years ago, and it was ‘incomplete’. gall bladder still up there and still kicking on occasion….sounds like you have had the better doctors!

You will be back here soon…and the best for you at this time.

    Lady Nyo

    • Yousei Hime says:

      Lady Nyo,
Left it in there? What were they thinking? I’m home and surgery is all done. Went well. Sore and resting. Post on the event tomorrow. Thank you so much for your well wishes.

  22. aloha Yousei Hime – yeah, once you decide to do it… get it done. ….i’ll see if i can find a suitable knock knock for your awakening. bling. eyes wide open minus a gallblah. energy sending to you for before and after. aloha.

  24. brian miller says:

haha nice joke…and hope all goes well and you are back at it soon enough…

    • Yousei Hime says:

      brian,
Corney one, I know. My kids moan and groan every time I tell it, which is whenever I figure out someone hasn’t heard it. 😉 Be back soon. Thanks for the well wishes.

  25. arcticwren says:

I hope I didn’t write this too late for you to see it before your surgery – good luck! Hope it all goes well! Eat lots of ice cream! (Even though that’s for tonsillitis, it should be mandatory after any surgery.) See you soon. 😛

  26. Jacquie says:

Best wishes for a quick recovery & many good night sleeps ahead!

  27. Jeannie says:

You’re too funny! I hope all goes well and you are back to your sweet self in short order. xox
