I can imagine some of you reading the title and thinking…what? So here is the short explanation. Very early tomorrow I will have my gall bladder removed.
The longer story is that for a couple of years I’ve had an uncomfortable though infrequent sensation just under my right ribs. It reminds me of when I was pregnant with my oldest child. In the womb he would stretch and stick a foot up under my ribs in just that spot. Well…I’m definitely not pregnant and the discomfort has become more frequent and interferes with my sleep (not a good thing for the other people in my house). I had the HIDA scan done. What is that? One is given two medicines intravenously. The first “lights” things up so pictures of the organ can be taken. Once that medicine reaches the gall bladder, the second medicine is given. Although not as innately evil, I loving call this medicine pitocin for the gall bladder. It doesn’t make the gall bladder go into labor exactly, but it did make it contract/work like it’s supposed to. Pictures are taken, data is extracted and calculated, and somehow they come up with an efficiency number–how well is that bladder working? The numbers range from 100 to 0–the former being perfect and the latter is probably dead. The cut-off number, the “Yeah, you better take that out” number is 35. Hm mm? So what was mine? It was 16. I was pretty darn sure that sucker needed to come out because for almost three days after that test I was sore like I’d done situps on the right side of my body only. So it’s coming out and I’m looking forward to being able to sleep comfortably on my stomach again in the near future. I’ll be back online on Friday or more likely Saturday.

My thoughts are with you, Yousei. I’ll bet you do tell the joke. As a teen, I had to have an operation to remove a fingernail, a nasty enough thing to have me put under. I had finals the next day. The surgeon had me saying ‘I will pass,’ as I went under. I came out of the anesthetic still saying it.

I wish you the very best on this surgery. I had that stuff done almost 4 years ago, and it was ‘incomplete’. gall bladder still up there and still kicking on occasion….sounds like you have had the better doctors!
